About Sarojini Devi From the the Director Desk ||
On Mother’s trail
I had risen to the occasion, lived up to her expectations and finally found a career of my choice in the Foreign Service. That gave me an incredible exposure to around 75 countries, big and small that I visited, partly for professional reasons but mostly due to my wanderlust, of getting to know peoples, their cultures, languages, ways of life and philosophies, comparing them along the way with the immense diversities that are the toast of our land.
Thus the idea of this library was born. To pay back to the society what I had accumulated over the years, an eclectic collection of books on a diverse array of subjects that I had bought from my personal savings, from book stores and exhibitions, and received as gifts and souvenirs, my prized acquisitions, a whole lot of them acquired in India.
If knowledge be the weapon to destroy ignorance, there can be no better projectile than books, to be read, understood and assimilated in the onward march to dispel darkness and be empowered. The trail which Sarojini Devi left behind can thus move towards a knowledge society as a new India seeks appearance at the turn of the third decade of the new millennium, a rich inheritance for mankind, howsoever modest its origin may have been.
